Think backing up a trailer is one of the most difficult driving chores? Ford is about to make your life a lot easier.

Known as Pro Trailer Backup Assist, the new gadget will debut in the F-150 pickup for the 2016 model year. Essentially, the new feature controls the direction of the trailer through a knob on the dashboard. When activated, the system takes over the truck’s steering and lets the driver control the direction of the trailer using only the knob.

Pro Trailer Backup Assist lets drivers control the direction of a trailer using just the knob.

Handout, Ford

Without Pro Trailer Backup Assist, a driver would need to turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction when reversing in order for the trailer to go where they want. Definitely innovative, Ford’s latest piece of technology takes the frustration, confusion and often embarrassment out of backing up a trailer.

It’s still unclear on which trim levels Ford will offer this tech, but you’ll be able to order Pro Trailer Backup Assist for 2016 F-150s starting this summer.
