Nissan reveals 400-horsepower engine for ZEOD-RC racer

Nissan has announced its Zero Emissions On Demand Race Car (ZEOD-RC) will be powered by an engine light enough for you to carry.

Weighing just 40 kg, the 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine develops 400 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque, enough for Nissan to promise the engine will “revolutionize the standards of performance efficiency.”

Handout, Nissan

Given the ultra-low curb weight, the ZEOD-RC’s engine has a power-to-weight ratio of 10 horsepower per kilogram, better than many of the new engines set to debut in this year’s Formula One season.

Looking virtually identical to the DeltaWing racecar Nissan helped develop, the ZEOD-RC can also run solely on electric power. It will make its debut at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.
