Ram‘s diesel-powered, heavy duty pickups have a new trump card over their General Motors and Ford rivals.
Fitted with the optional 6.7-litre Cummins turbodiesel engine, torque has been cranked up by 35 lb.-ft. for the 2016 model year. This means Ram’s heavy duty 2500 and 3500 can now produce 900 lb.-ft. of torque, good enough to make it the most torque-rich engine fitted to any mass-produced pickup from the factory floor, according to Fiat-Chrysler.
For comparison’s sake, Ford’s PowerStroke diesel is good for 860 lb.-ft. of torque, while GM’s Duramax diesel punches in at 765 lb.-ft.
The torque boost translates to improved towing capabilities for Ram’s HD trucks. The Ram 2500 and 3500 are now certified to haul up to roughly 18,000 and 31,000 pounds, respectively.
Look for the 2016 Ram HD to start rolling off the production line later this summer.
