DETROIT, MI. – General Motors unveiled a convertible version of their all-new sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro muscle car.
Built on the aluminum-intensive Alpha platform, the same one underpinning cars like the Cadillac ATS and CTS sedans, the Camaro Convertible boasts the segment’s most advanced hard tonneau cover.
“Nobody in the segment boasts a hard top that looks like this” said Camaro head engineer Al Oppenheimer.

It’s the first of its kind that cam be operated at speed. The roof can be raised or lowered at up to 50 km/h, tucking away for a clean and finished look. Another segment-first is that the top can be activated using the key fob.
“With a top like this, the folks down the road at Dearborn had better be worried,” Oppenheimer joked.
Like the fixed-roof coupe, GM is offering a choice of three powertrains with the new Camaro convertible. A 275-horsepower turbo-four serves as the base engine, while buyers can step up to an all-new 335-horsepower V6 or a 6.2L V8 – similar to the one found in the Corvette Stingray – good for 455 horsepower. All three engines drive the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
The new Camaro Convertible is scheduled to arrive in the first quarter of 2016.
