According to Motor Trend, GM will invest $245 million USD and add 300 new jobs at its Orion Assembly plant in preparation for what seems like a new compact CUV.

Motor Trend says that a GM source stared that we can expect “a future crossover with no predecessor” and that “the gaps in [Cadillac’s] product lineup are obvious.”

It’s likely that this mystery crossover would be called the XT1 and would be similar in size to the Buick Encore. Cadillac boss, Johan de Nysschen has also stated that the crossover segment would be a major focus in the future.

Cadillac plans to align its future CUV portfolio with BMW, Audi and Mercedes eventually, adding the XT1, XT3, XT5 and XT7 to compete with the BMW X1 all the way through to the upcoming X7.

The Escalade will continue to be untouched by Cadillac’s new naming scheme and will keep its nearly iconic name. It would be a lot harder for rappers to work “XT9″ into their lyrics than “Escalade.”
