The next-generation Subaru Legacy will make its North American debut at the Chicago Auto Show next week.
Following the Legacy Concept from last year’s L.A. Auto Show, Subaru is marking the Legacy’s 25th anniversary with sleeker styling, based on the sole teaser image. Subaru is pegging the sixth-generation Legacy as its flagship “mid-size sport sedan” with enhanced driving dynamics and functionality. While nothing has been confirmed in the way of technical details, it’s pretty much a guarantee the Legacy will be all-wheel-drive and powered by a horizontally-opposed engine.
Currently, the Legacy can be had with either a 2.5-litre four-cylinder or a 3.6-litre six-cylinder engine. The 2.5-litre four can be paired to either a six-speed manual or a CVT, while the sole transmission option for the 3.6 is a five-speed automatic. Does Subaru pushing the “mid-size sport sedan” label mean the return of the turbocharged GT model? We’ll see next week when the Chicago Auto Show kicks off on Feb. 6.
