Jaguar is reportedly using the F-Type as a test mule for its upcoming turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
According to Autocar UK, the F-Type test mule was spied with a unique hood and exhaust system. While there is no confirmation a turbo-four is indeed under the hood of the F-Type in question, it’s not unreasonable to believe given Jaguar is currently working on such an engine. Not to mention, a four-cylinder iengine would require a manifold only on one side, hence requiring a different exhaust system.
The turbocharged four-cylinder engine will first debut in Jaguar’s upcoming, all-aluminum BMW 3 Series fighter, but there’s a chance it could trickle into a number of additional Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles. Jaguar exec Ian Hoban even told Autocar that a high-output, turbo-four F-Type has “great potential.”
If a turbo-four F-Type is in the cards, it’s rumoured we likely won’t see it until 2015.
