Lotus will officially be adding a droptop version of the Evora 400 to its lineup next year.
A Lotus spokesperson confirmed the news to Automobile Magazine after word first broke out in a report from Autocar. Expect to see the Evora 400 roadster debut around September 2016, styled as a targa and complete with two carbon fibre roof panels.
Aside from that, the Evora 400 roadster will be mechanically identical to the coupe. It will be powered by a supercharged 3.5-litre V6 engine rated at 400 horsepower and paired to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
Speaking to Autocar, Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales says the Evora 400 Roadster won’t lose any structural rigidity compared to the coupe. Aimed squarely at the likes of the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider and Porsche Boxster, Gales says the roadster will be critical in boosting Lotus’ presence in North America.
