Audi is expanding the A4’s powertrain lineup in North America with a new diesel engine.

According to Motor Authority, Audi will offer two 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder powertrains when the next-generation A4 goes on sale in North America next March.

The gasoline variant will be rated at 252 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque, while a 190-horsepower turbodiesel with 295 lb.-ft. of torque will be optional. Both engines will power all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, although front-wheel-drive models will be offered down the road.

Like the current model, the 2017 A4 will be available in sedan and Allroad variants, making the prospects of an A4 Avant coming across the Atlantic unlikely. That being said, expect the high-performance S4 and RS 4 in North America, starting with the S4 a year after the A4’s initial launch.

Pricing will be announced closer to the new A4’s on-sale date.
