Nearly every driver loves to hate on roads for one reason or another, whether it’s over traffic problems or potholes. One Dutch company has a solution for at least one of those problems.
VolkerWessels, working with the city of Rotterdam, proposed a type of road made out of plastic. The idea seems novel – plastic surfaces effectively eliminate costly asphalt maintenance and repairs, while hollow cavities beneath allow space for pipes and wires.

For now, VolkerWessels’ idea is exactly that – an idea. Gizmodo says it’s not exactly feasible just yet as prototypes have yet to be developed and tested, though the benefits seem to outweigh asphalt by a long shot, especially when it comes to adding and removing roadways.
In theory, VolkerWessels’ idea should make installation and maintenance a breeze compared to asphalt, but a prototype has yet to be tested according to Gizmodo.
