Audi R8 to receive turbocharged five-cylinder engine

The second-generation Audi R8 is launching with a 5.2L naturally aspirated V10 as its sole engine option. But according to Road & Track, the base engine in some markets be a turbocharged unit.

The sonourous 4.2L naturally aspirated V8 has gone the way of the dodo and it will be replaced by a lower-revving, likely more powerful and efficient trurbo engine. There are two possibilities for the new base engine: the R8 could use a twin-turbo V6 that could power the upcoming RS4.

The second possibility is that the R8 could use the wild turbocharged and electrically supercharged 2.5L inline five from the TT Clubsport Turbo concept car. That engine makes a V10-overshadowing 600 horsepower and 479 lb. ft. of torque.

Audi says that whichever turbo engine they choose; it will be sold alongside the V10 instead of replacing it.
