For those not in the know, the Tesla Model S P85D has a switch where owners can choose ‘sport’ acceleration or ‘insane’ acceleration.

Well, according to Road & Track, insane mode is gone only to be replaced by an even madder ‘Ludicrous mode.’ The engineers over at Tesla have found a way to extract 1,500 amps from the Tesla’s batteries from the previous 1,300 amps. This amounts to a staggering zero-to-100 km/h time of 2.8 seconds and a goodbye-Ferrari 10.9-second quarter-mile time. Ludicrous!

If you’re a P85D owner who’s tired of being beaten by Ferrari F12 Berlinettas at the traffic lights, you can upgrade your car’s battery for $5,000 if you act within the next six months. New Tesla buyers can purchase the upgraded battery for $10,000.

We’ll bring you more details as we have it.
