Ford is on the verge of flipping the pickup market on its head with the all-aluminum F-150. Rumour now has it a diesel powertrain is in the cards for its latest pickup.
According to TheTruthAboutCars, Ford already has life-cycle refreshes planned out for the latest F-150. Included will be a mid-life refresh, which will introduce a 3.0-litre V6 engine, codenamed “Lion.” In addition, TTAC says the F-150′s 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6 will pump out anywhere between 290 and 300 horsepower.
The F-150′s mid-cycle refresh is expected to roll out in 2018, but Ford was beaten to the punch by Ram, which introduced its EcoDiesel V6 in the Ram 1500 last year. In addition to the refresh, TTAC says Ford plans to introduce a 10-speed automatic transmission in the F-150 and will roll out aluminum-bodied versions of the F-150-based Expedition and Lincoln Navigator. Super Duty models, however, will remain steel-bodied.
