Chevrolet is making way for an all-new crossover due out in the next couple of years.
According to Automotive News, GM will be adding a fourth crossover to the Chevy lineup, slotting between the Equinox and the Traverse. Sources say the next-generation Equinox will shrink in size when it moves to GM’s Delta platform underpinning the Chevy Cruze and the Traverse will remain a full-size SUV, thus opening up space for a fourth model.
The upcoming CUV will essentially be built on the Traverse’s platform, but with a shorter wheelbase. Three-row seating will be available and platform itself will also underpin the next-gen Cadillac SRX and upcoming XT5, as well as the redesigned GMC Acadia.
Once the changes take effect, this essentially paves the way for a four-tier CUV lineup – the Trax, Equinox, the new crossover in question and the Traverse, better aligning Chevrolet with the competition.
Look for Chevy’s fourth crossover to debut sometime around 2018.
