Audi fans have long been frustrated by the lack of an RS 4 on our shores, so much so there is even a Facebook page set up to petition the automaker to please stop being silly and bring the jalapeno-hot wagon to North America.
Considered the highest performing A4 available, the RS 4 once came to the U.S. and Canada, though it has been relegated to wagon form only in Europe for some years now. Underpinned by Volkswagen’s MLB platform, the B8-generation RS 4 is able to hit 100 km/h from a standstill in 4.7 seconds. Yes, as a family-hauling wagon.
Well, alas, the master of the four rings may have finally got the message, or figured out there’s a business case, for an RS 4 in North America again. Rumour has it Audi has confirmed the newest RS 4 will again be available in sedan form — a move that opens the door to the North American market where enthusiasts tend to buy sedans over wagons.
Speculation is the new RS 4 will have a twin-turbo V6 rated at 500 horsepower, and that a less powerful variant of that engine will debut in the S4. No doubt this will all be confirmed in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
