The relentless adoption of downsized turbo engines continues as two mass-market best-sellers add turbo I4’s in lieu of larger, naturally aspirated engines.
According to Car and Driver, both Honda and Toyota will likely add a turbocharged four-cylinder engine to the Accord and Camry, respectively.
Honda will likely be replacing the Accord’s standard 184-horsepower 2.4-litre four-cylinder with a 1.5L turbo-four, which will also available in the upcoming Civic. There might be a slight power gain, but the real goal of the turbocharged engine is to boost fuel economy.
Over at the Toyota camp, the Camry will see the currently optional 268 horsepower V6 replaced with a much smaller 2.0L turbo-four. That engine makes just 235 horsepower in the Lexus NX, so all the Camry V6 owners who drag race on the weekends might be disappointed with the new mill unless power is somehow increased.
