The numbers are in: General Motors claims the second-generation Chevrolet Volt can travel up to 53 miles without the aid of a combustion engine.
That’s about 85 kilometres and a nearly 40 per cent increase over the outgoing model. After those first 53 miles, the Volt’s 1.5-litre engine kicks in to charge the batteries and take the driver as far as they’d like to go.
Chief engineer Andrew Farah says that the demand for more range was heard loud and clear from Volt customers.
“They were very clear when they told us that they wanted more range and a fun driving experience behind the wheel,” Farah said. “We are confident that the 2016 Volt delivers both.”
