Mazda has just given us a sneak peek of its upcoming Koeru concept.
The Koeru, confirmed for a debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, is named after the Japanese word for “exceed” or “go beyond.” The sketch might suggest a low-slung roofline, an even lower stance and an overall sharper interpretation of Mazda’s Kodo design language, but make no mistake – the Japanese automaker says this is going to be a crossover.
Given the CX-9 is currently the oldest SUV (and as a result, still built with Ford bits under the skin) in Mazda’s portfolio, we expect the Koeru see the light of day as the next-generation CX-9 – and previous reports seem to back that up, too.
Of course, it’s still too early to tell. We’ll have a better idea once the Frankfurt Motor Show kicks off September 17.
