It appears as though Kia has changed its mind about building a sports car.
At least, that’s the latest word from Paul Philpott, Kia’s head honcho in the U.K. In an interview with Autocar, Philpott promised Kia will have a new sports car on the market by 2020.
Details are still thin, but Philpott says it will be a standalone model – as in, it won’t be based on the platform of another Kia model. It will also be “affordable” and available worldwide. Yes, that means if the rumours hold true, we’ll see it in North America.
As for the overall look, it will draw inspiration from the GT4 Stinger and GT concepts, and will be billed as a competitor to the likes of the Mazda MX-5 Miata, as well as the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ twins.
