In Los Angeles, Hyundai offered an intimate press preview of the Vision G Coupe before the vehicle’s debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance this weekend.
The design team aimed for understated opulence by developing a streamlined body — clearly inspired by current luxury leaders such as Audi. The new concept is powered by the award-winning, 420-horsepower 5.0-litre Tau V8 engine. High-pressure direct injection and enhanced efficiency produce 383 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm.
Hyundai’s president and chief design officer, Peter Schreyer, explains the styling as “a DNA that balances design and performance with the idea that you don’t need to be over-the-top in terms of glitz and stereotypical luxury cues.”
Among the unique features, a “valet” feature senses when the driver is approaching and opens the door automatically. Suicide rear doors and carbon fibre wheels indicate Hyundai is serious about developing an edgier reputation, but whether the more revolutionary features make it to the production line remains to be seen.
