Neither inclined to settle for “good enough,” Audi and Porsche are furthering the quest for the ultimate engine by joining forces to develop a brand-new line of turbocharged V6 and V8 powerplants — with a scalable design for varied capacity, from (potentially) a 2.5-litre V6 to a 4.0-litre V8.
Autocar reports that electric-powered turbocharging could be developed later, although actual production timelines remain a mystery. As part of the Volkswagen Group family, Bentley and possibly Lamborghini models might also benefit from the collaboration.
Under the internal codename KoVoMo (based on the German Konzern Vee Otto Motoren, or “Group V gas engines”), the project is another step towards the standardization of key components shared among the automotive group’s various models.
