Volkswagen is set to spice things up with a Coupe version of its next-gen Tiguan SUV as well as a high-performance, 300-horespower Coupe R model.
The new Tiguan Coupe is set to arrive in 2017, with the sporty Tiguan Coupe R set to arrive in 2018, the U.K.’s Autocar reports.
The new R version of the Tiguan Coupe will reportedly use the same turbocharged 2.0-litre gas engine found in the Golf R. In addition to making around 300 hp, it will produce up to 280 pound-feet of torque and come with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as well as all-wheel-drive, according to Autocar.
Reports say the Tiguan Coupe will remain a four-door hatchback despite its name, but will sport a more aggressive and sporty look compared with the standard Tiguan. It could take cues from the Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE Concept unveiled at this year’s Detroit auto show.
