GM has dished details on 2016 Chevrolet Camaro pricing – for the U.S., at least.
Based on GM’s aluminum-intensive Alpha platform, the base Camaro 1LT starts at $26,695. That gets you a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, sending 275 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear wheels via either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. If the turbo-four doesn’t offer enough kick, you can opt for a 330-horsepower 3.6-litre V6 or a 455-horsepower 6.2-litre V8 in the range-topping SS for about $37,295 south of the border.
For 2016, the Camaro comes standard with features such as Apple CarPlay, 4G LTE internet connectivity, keyless entry and a backup camera. Turbo-four and V6 Camaros can be had with the RS package, which adds HID headlights, LED tail lights, a unique grille treatment and a rear spoiler.
But if you think the V8 is the only way to go, the “base” 1SS comes with a handful of performance upgrades, including larger Brembo brakes, run-flat Goodyear tires and better cooling. Stick with the manual and you’ll get a limited-slip differential and active rev-matching technology.
Fully-loaded 2SS models have standard heated and cooled leather seats up front, wireless phone charging, a heads-up display and a Bose audio system, along with a blind-spot monitor and lane-keep assist – to name just a few of the standard goodies.
Expect Canadian pricing to be announced closer to the on-sale date in the first quarter of 2016.
