The 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is now among the most fuel-efficient half-ton pickup on the market, according to Chrysler.
The 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6 was introduced to the Ram 1500 last year, along with refreshed styling. Producing 240 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque, Chrysler now says it achieves a fuel economy rating of 10.2L/100 km in the city, and more importantly, 7.1 on the highway, according to EnerGuide.
The 7.1L/100 km highway rating not only puts the Ram EcoDiesel puts it ahead of all 1/2 ton pickups, it is, according to Chrysler, the “best ever” highway fuel economy rating recorded in a half-ton pickup. In addition to the EcoDiesel model, Chrysler says its Pentastar V6-equipped Ram 1500 is rated at 10.2L/100 km in the city and 7.8 on the highway. Both the EcoDiesel and Pentastar V6 engines are paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Currently, the Ram 1500 is the only half-ton pickup on the market with a diesel option. In addition to the Pentastar V6 and the EcoDiesel V8, the Ram 1500 can be had with a 5.7-litre Hemi V8 engine.
