Ford is expected to broaden its CUV lineup with two new models in a bid to boost sales in Europe.
According to Autocar, Ford is looking to capitalize on Europe’s growing compact crossover market with five new or redesigned models. At least two will be all-new models, possibly based on the Fiesta and Focus. Confusing? Yes, especially since the Escape and the not-for-North-America EcoSport are already based on the Focus and Fiesta, respectively.
As for the rest of Ford’s CUV lineup in Europe, the Kuga – we know it as the Escape – is due to receive new infotainment options. The EcoSport will be refreshed and the Edge will be introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week before going on sale next year across the continent in 2016.
That being said, there’s no doubt subcompact crossovers like the Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3 have exploded in popularity. It wouldn’t be crazy to expect either crossover – especially the Fiesta-based model – to appear in North America.
