Jaguar has revealed Canadian pricing for the XE, its all-new sports sedan targeted at the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Starting at $45,000 for the base 20t model, the XE will be available with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine. Part of Jaguar’s new Ingenium engine family, the turbodiesel pumps out 180 horsepower and 315 lb.-ft. of torque.

If diesel isn’t your cup of tea, Jaguar will let you step up to the 35t, powered by Jaguar’s supercharged 3.0-litre V6. With 340 horsepower and 332 lb.-ft. of torque, the V6 lets the XE complete the zero-to-100 km/h sprint in 5.1 seconds. Both engines are hooked up to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Under the skin, the XE features Jaguar’s aluminum-intensive platform, as well as a double-wishbone suspension setup up front. Rear-wheel-drive is standard, but for those who prefer to have four wheels powered, all-wheel-drive will be optional.

Regardless of the engine you choose, the XE is available in Premium, Prestige and R-Sport flavours. The latter adds more aggressive bodywork, unique satin and gloss black trim pieces, a lip spoiler on the trunk and optional 20-inch wheels.

The XE can also be had with a handful of the seemingly industry-standard safety and tech gadgets, including adaptive cruise control, a blind spot monitor and semi-automated parking assists, as well as a laser heads-up display, one of two Meridian sound systems and Jaguar’s new InControl infotainment system – to name just a few.

The Jaguar XE is already available outside of North America, but we’ll see it launch here as a 2017 model next year.
