Ford‘s toughened-up F-Series Super Duty has made the aluminum switch.
Following in the footsteps of the latest F-150, the F-250, F-350 and F-450 Super Duty pickups now feature an aluminum body. Built atop a frame made up of 95 per cent high-strength steel, the 2017 Super Duty is not only 158 kilograms lighter than the outgoing truck, Ford says it’s also more dent-resistant compared to the outgoing steel-bodied truck.
As for powertrains, the Super Duty will come with one of two V8 options – a 6.2-litre gas engine and Ford’s second-generation 6.7-litre Power Stroke diesel – as well as a 6.2-litre gasoline V10. Horsepower, torque and fuel economy figures are still under wraps.
The 2017 Super Duty also sees a handful of segment-first features – 16, to be exact. There’s LED lighting, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera system that gives a bird’s eye view around the truck and a back-up camera that can mount onto a trailer, to name just a few.
Ford’s newest Sync 3 infotainment system is available on the 2017 Super Duty, along with an in-trailer tire-pressure monitoring system, a lane-departure warning system, collision warning with automatic braking and a blind-spot monitor.
The 2017 Super Duty will be available next year in XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum. Expect pricing and powertrain details closer to launch.
