Is Ford planning to introduce an Escape ST?

Ford is reportedly looking to expand the Escape lineup with a handful of new versions.

Not too long ago, Ford introduced Vignale, a series of higher-end trim levels for overseas markets, currently limited to the Mondeo and the S-MAX. According to Roelant de Waard, Ford’s vice president of sales, marketing and service in Europe, we could see the Vignale treatment extended to other models.

“The answer is yes in general, but I am not going to say which ones,” de Waard said.

Given its popularity, the Escape – badged as the Kuga overseas – will likely be the next model. It’s a smart step, especially given that in Europe, most Kuga orders are for the top-spec Titanium and Titanium X trims.

Along with the Kuga/Escape Vignale, Ford could be planning something else. De Waard hints that the company hasn’t ignored the fact that a handful of the competition are experimenting with sportier crossovers. This could mean an Escape ST, complete with unique bodywork, larger brakes, stiffer suspension bits and much more muscle than the 240-horsepower turbo-four in the Escape Titanium.
