Dodge Viper could be discontinued after next year

The days of Dodge‘s 640-horsepower halo car could be numbered.

Fiat Chrysler hasn’t outright confirmed the news, but BangShift suggests things are looking grim for the Dodge Viper thanks to a proposed contract between the automaker and the United Auto Workers (UAW) Union.

The tentative agreement, which was reached last week, says the Viper will be “built out” for the 2017 model year. The red flag, however, is that the proposal says there is “no future product has yet been identified.” More importantly, the Viper’s Connor Avenue assembly plant in Detroit has been on Fiat Chrysler’s chopping block for some time.

Let’s not forget the value proposition – it’s no secret the Dodge Viper hasn’t exactly been a strong seller. Coupled with the fact competition has no doubt heated up and, put simply, the Dodge Challenger and Charger Hellcat are more powerful and cheaper, this news doesn’t exactly translate to a bright future for the Viper.
