Over the past few years, Hyundai hasn’t exactly been discreet about its upscale intentions. Now, it’s looking to take it another step further.
According to a Reuters report via Automotive News, three executives within the company say Hyundai will make the announcement official today. Genesis won’t be limited to certain markets, however – Hyundai fully intends to offer it globally.
“A small line of upscale products is going to be sold under the Genesis brand name,” one of the sources said, who wished to remain anonymous. However, the brand will be sold through existing Hyundai dealers, as the source added creating a new dealer network exclusive to Genesis would carry too much risk.
Hyundai hasn’t officially commented on the move. Three models will be sold under the new brand – the Hyundai Genesis sedan and coupe, as well as the Equus, which will be renamed. Come 2019, Hyundai is also planning to add a mid-size SUV to its upscale lineup.
