Volkswagen has announced that the Beetle Dune, which was revealed as a concept in 2014, will be available for sale as a coupe in the first quarter of 2016 and later as a convertible.
The Dune takes inspiration from the dune buggy and bug craze of the ’70s. It has a revised front and rear fascia and a ride height that is 1 cm taller than standard with a 1.5 cm wider track. The rear diffuser also doubles as a skid plate in off-road driving.
Like the Baja Bugs of old, the Dune has just two driven wheels (at the front) and there is no talk of offering an all-wheel-drive version. Motivation comes from a 170-horsepower 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder. Just three exterior colours are offered: Sandstorm Yellow, Pure White and Deep Black Pearl.
