2017 GMC Canyon Denali unveiled in L.A.

What is it? General Motors’ GMC brand is already experiencing unprecedented sales growth, and to keep up that momentum it’s adding a high-end Denali model to its newest truck: the Canyon midsize pickup truck.

To be sold as a crew cab only with the existing V6 gas and turbodiesel powerplants, the 2017 Canyon Denali won’t get an upgraded engine as do the full-size GMC Sierra and Yukon Denalis. Instead, the smallest Denali so far will distinguish itself with bigger, 20-inch chrome wheels, more exterior chrome (highlighted by the signature Denali electric shaver grille) and an upgraded interior (including heated and ventilated front seats).

Why does it matter? In the language of GMC, the “Denali” sub-brand translates into “profits.” Which is why we also saw here in Los Angeles the debut of an even higher-end version of its Sierra Denali full-size pickup, dubbed Denali Ultimate.

When is it coming? Late 2016.

Should you buy it? If you are looking for the most luxurious midsize truck on the market (that is until Chevrolet comes out with its Canyon Denali-mimicking Colorado High Country), giddy-up, pardner!
