The highly acclaimed and controversial Tesla Model S will gain all-wheel drive and bigger batteries, Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed at talks in Amsterdam and Oslo, Green Car Reports says.

Musk said the electric car’s upgrades will come around the same time as Tesla’s new SUV, the Model X, will debut, forecast to be early 2015.  The bigger battery packs will be an optional upgrade for owners who want more range from their electric car. Musk said AWD won’t decrease the car’s range like it does in conventionally gas-powered cars. Other upgrades could include guidance lines on the back-up camera, a hill-holder function, adaptive cruise control and new front seats.

At the talks, Musk also confirmed that the Model X will come with the futuristic and super cool Delorean-like “falcon doors” previewed on the design concept version of the car. The Model X will also have the same wheelbase as the Model S and come standard with all-wheel drive.

Musk also said Tesla is aiming to reduce the cost of batteries.
