Mercedes-Benz‘s all-new S-Class Coupe, which was unveiled today after a string of leaks, features a new “Magic Body Control” suspension and optional headlights that have Swarovski crystals built right in.
“The breathtaking design of the Concept S-Class Coupé [that was] marked by sporty-classic proportions and sensual purity is transferred to the series production S-Class Coupé virtually unaltered,” Ola Källenius, member of the board of management, sales and marketing at Mercedes-Benz, said in a press release. “The large coupé has always been the supreme pinnacle of our model range and that’s why it’s now called the S-Class again.”

Mercedes-Benz S 500 4MATIC Coupé comes with optional crystals in the headlights.

The aggressive-looking Coupe, which will replace the CL-Class, looks similar to the concept that was unveiled at the Frankfurt auto show. The Coupe keeps the long hood, short deck, muscular wheel arches and bold grille previewed on the concept but adds a host of impressive technology, which leads with a new automatic adaptive suspension. The “Magic Body Control” suspension that helps keep the car flat over bumps and in corners first debuted on the S-Class sedan.
“The Coupé leans into bends in a manner similar to a motorcyclist or skier,” Mercedes said in a press release. “The lateral acceleration acting upon occupants is reduced in a way akin to when driving in a steep curve, and passengers sit more firmly. On country roads in particular, the new curve tilting function enhances motoring enjoyment and comfort.”
The S-Class Coupe will likely come with the same powertrain options as the sedan version, which include a 258-hp 3.0L V6, a twin-turbo V8 capable of 455 hp and 516 lb.-ft. of torque, and a 3.5L V6 gas/electric hybrid. The car will sit on 18 to 20-inch wheels. The Coupe’s rear quarter mimics styling cues found on the SLS supercar and has strong character lines that are distinctly Mercedes. The Coupe also gets a striking LED treatment in the front and back. The front LED daytime running lights and headlights can be accented by an optional package including 47 Austrian crystals.
The Coupe carries over a lot of the safety technology featured in the sedan including multiple collision avoidance systems and driver attention assistants. The interior also features quilted leather seats, a full leather dashboard, an adaptive panoramic sunroof and a driver’s head-up display. A “Super Sport” steering wheel with galvanized spokes is also a prominent feature of the interior.
