Just how does Chevrolet’s seventh-generation Corvette stack up against some of Europe’s finest? Just fine, thanks.
It turns out the affordable North American sports car can hold its own against its more expensive counterparts, according to a test conducted by the U.K.’s Autocar magazine.
The test pitted the Corvette Stingray (which starts at just $52,745 in Canada) against the Porsche 911 Carrera S ($112,800), Jaguar F-Type R V8 ($109,900), and Audi R8 V8 ($134,000).
In the acceleration run, the Corvette outgunned the Porsche 911 every time. The 911, however, was superior in braking performance, stopping several feet before the ‘Vette.
In the subjective “sounds” test, the C7′s growl went head-to-head with the Jaguar’s throaty purr. The result was a draw.
Finally, in the handling test, the Audi R8 was found to be a touch quicker around the bend thanks to its all-wheel-drive system, but the Corvette was more fun to just hoon about. The crew decided this, too, was also a draw.
