Volkswagen is preparing to unveil four different Polo models at the Geneva Motor Show next week — the Polo TSI BlueMotion, Polo TDI BlueMotion, Polo BlueGT and CrossPolo.

The popular subcompact, which isn’t sold in Canada, gets a host of new engines, a new steering system, an improved infotainment system, and a few driving assistants not typically found on cars in its class. Some of these features include a standard collision avoidance system and optional adaptive cruise control and other driver attention alert systems.

Although fuel economy has been improved across the whole Polo range, VW claims its new 1.0L turbocharged three-cylinder Polo TSI and TDI BlueMotion are the world’s most fuel-efficient five-seaters, consuming just 4.1 L/100 km and 3.1 L/100 km, respectively.

The Polo BlueGT will get active cylinder management, which can shut off two of its four cylinders to help reduce fuel consumption. Horsepower has also been bumped up to 148 hp. The CrossPolo has an off-road look while maintaining civilized driving manners and will come with new colours and revised interior trim.

Stay tuned for coverage from Geneva all next week.
