Jaguar has enjoyed a strong year thanks to successful models like the XJ and F-Type, but a new report suggests the British automaker will soon discontinue the XK gran-tourer from its lineup.
Autocar UK reports the XK lineup has been overshadowed by the widely-acclaimed F-Type, resulting in a sales drop to about 4,000 cars per year. In the last three months of 2012, XK sales punched in at approximately 1,000 cars, but that figure fell significantly in the final months of 2013 following the launch of the F-Type, despite the differentiation between the two cars.
That being said, a replacement could be a possibility in the far future, but Jaguar designer Ian Callum said execs were “going through a lot of discussion” in regards to the evolution of the XK. Callum says it’s entirely possible the XK could evolve into something “a bit more special than a GT.”
