Rolls-Royce is looking to introduce a hybrid model into its lineup within the next three years.
Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Otvos told AutoExpress (hat tip to AutoEvolution) that the company will offer a hybrid model in light of increasingly strict emission regulations. Previously, the company offered an electric version of the Phantom, dubbed the 102EX, but having been rejected by customers over range issues and long charging times, that particular model never took off.
At the Geneva Motor Show, Müller-Otvos suggested a hybrid would be common ground between reducing emission ratings and customer demand. Although the specific model is still unclear, Rolls-Royce will likely look to parent company BMW for the hybrid technology.
Currently, BMW offers a hybrid version of the 7 Series. It’s likely the entry-level Ghost will receive the hybrid powertrain given the two share a powertrain. In terms of pricing, it is expected the hybrid model won’t see any sort of price increase over the standard gasoline-powered model.
