Latest rumours suggest the Nissan GT-R could become a hybrid when the next-generation model rolls out as early as 2016.
But instead of being the environmentally-friendly type, a Facebook post from Japanese magazine 7Tune is suggesting the 2016 Nissan GT-R will be the incredibly fast type of hybrid.
According to Japanese sources with “inside info for the next R36 GT-R”, we could be looking at the current twin-turbocharged V6 under the hood, but massaged to produce 580 horsepower. It will likely be mated to a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) co-developed by Nissan and Formula One team Williams, good for an extra 250 horsepower kick.
With “over” 800 horsepower on tap, 7Tune suggests a zero-to-100 km/h time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 340 km/h. However, as appetizing as an 800-plus horsepower Nissan GT-R sounds, we’re taking this with a grain of salt as anything is possible in the rumourmill.
