The all-new 2015 Ford Mustang is the most advanced Mustang ever, and here, its designers take us behind the scenes on how they also made it the most aerodynamic Mustang ever.
Although detailed discussions on wind tunnels and aerodynamics are usually reserved for supercars with aspirations to be the fastest car around the Nurburgring, a lot of work has gone into making the Mustang slick in the wind. Although Nurburgring times aren’t the Mustang’s main concern, Ford customers want better fuel economy, less wind noise and better performance, and that’s why aerodynamics are so important in the new Mustang.

Ford designers also take us through how they designed the new Mustang’s convertible top to open twice as fast as the previous-generation model’s top. The Mustang was meant to be a convertible from Day One, so it was important that the designers got it right without taking away too much usable trunk space. Ford claims that even with the top down, the Mustang’s trunk can still hold two sets of golf clubs.
