BMW has a tendency to populate its lineup with niche models, a trend that is showing no signs of letting up with its latest possible offering, the X2 Sports Activity Vehicle.
Following the rumours earlier this month, the news and a design sketch of the new crossover leaked via a report from enthusiast forum Bimmerpost. The X2 will be pegged as a sportier variant of the X1, much like the X4 is to the X3. Due out as early as 2017, the X2 will likely share its underpinnings with the Mini Countryman.
Unlike the 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW’s first Mini-based crossover, the X2 will be available exclusively with all-wheel-drive. BMW is also rumoured to offer the X2 in three- and five-door configurations.
