For the last little while, Volvo has been developing its Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) platform expected to underpin larger vehicles in its lineup, such as the S60 sedan and XC60 crossover.
But in addition to that, Volvo and parent company Geely are working on a second platform, expected to underpin compact cars manufactured by both automakers.
According to MotorAuthority, the platform is known as the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) and will be used in a handful of Geely vehicles, as well as compact Volvos, including a possible successor to the C30 hatchback.
In addition to the C30 replacement, the next-generation V40 wagon and a new crossover, possibly called the XC40, will likely be underpinned by the CMA platform. We can expect to see Geely and Volvo’s first batch of CMA-based vehicles over the next three to four years.
