The Toyota Camry, one of the most popular midsize sedans on the market, could be getting a refresh in time for the New York Auto Show.

Rather than the complete redesign it arguably needs, the 2015 Camry will be refreshed. According to Automotive News, Toyota suggests the new model “will change the conventional expectations of a mid-cycle model change.”

Toyota has remained tight-lipped on the changes we can expect, but we do know that Camry sales have started to slip in the first two months of this year. By the end of 2013, Camry sales crested 400,000 units, but figures were down some 11 per cent through February. The trend seems to be similar in Canada, according to data from Good Car Bad Car; last year, Toyota sold nearly 18,000 Camrys, but monthly sales have also been slipping here.

The Camry also has a fair bit of expectations to live up to after competitors such as the Honda Accord, Ford Fusion and Mazda6 have gained ground on U.S. Camry sales. In fact, the Nissan Altima eclipsed the Camry’s sales south of the border in January and February.

This year’s New York International Auto Show kicks off on April 16.
