Although the first-generation Subaru Tribeca wasn’t a sales success, the Japanese automaker is reportedly taking another stab at building a mid-size SUV.
A new report out of Motor Trend suggests the Subaru Viziv 2 Concept, which made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, doesn’t preview the next-generation Crosstrek, Forester or Outback. Instead, the Viziv 2 hints at a successor to the Tribeca, due out sometime in 2017.
If the rumours hold true, the new SUV will wear a new name do differentiate itself from the slow-selling Tribeca. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, currently available in various Subaru vehicles outside of North America. Pumping out 148 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque, the diesel mill will be paired to a plug-in hybrid powertrain derived from Toyota.
