Think of it as the ultimate auto mall. From econoboxes to super cars, from pickups to luxury SUVs, and from classics to concepts, the 2014 Vancouver International Auto Show offers the world of wheels all under one roof.
Since moving to the Vancouver Convention Centre a couple of years ago after decades in cavernous B.C. Place, the show has taken on a more intimate feel, and as one showgoer said to me last year on opening day, “This just feels like an auto show should feel.”
Translation: sparkling sheet metal as far as the eye can see; state-of-the-art technological displays; and the inherent excitement that somewhere on the showroom floor, your next vehicle awaits you.
As much as the auto show is a shopping experience, it is also the ideal place to gather information about the car or truck or your dreams. Well-informed manufacturer representatives staff the respective booths and displays, and unlike in a dealership showroom, they are their to answer questions, not close the deal.
Special features include the Exotics, a selection of truly exhilarating automobiles; Classic Alley, a tribute to our shared automotive history and the summer’s collector car shows; the Green Ride and Drive, offering guests the opportunity to test-drive the latest eco-friendly vehicles from top manufacturers; and the Red Line Stage, presenting special guest speakers and events.
Two Postmedia classic car experts, Alyn Edwards and Nigel Matthews, will share their knowledge with showgoers during appearances on the Red Line Stage. Alyn will address the crowd at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 21 and on noon both Saturday and Sunday; Nigel is on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Andrew McCredie is the Province’s Driving Editor.
