McLaren says it will be pulling the plug on the 12C in an effort to focus on production of the recently revealed 650S Coupe and Spider.

According to a report out of Carscoops, McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt informed owners via email that the move “represents a natural evolution of our model line-up.”

“The final piece of news I wanted to share with you is regarding 12C production which we have decided to cease in light of the success of the 650S,” he wrote. “The new car has been so well received since its unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show (we already have a six month order bank), we will focus all our capacity at the McLaren Production Centre on the 650S.”

But it’s not all bad news — in the same memo, Flewitt wrote that starting in June, McLaren will be offering complimentary upgrades for 12C owners that includes some of the new features found on the 650S.

The upgrades in question include tweaked Active Aero software, which would allow the car’s airbrake to “sense different driving scenarios” and deploy to improve stability going over a hill or if the driver lifts off the throttle. In addition, McLaren will also throw in a new Drag Reduction System (DRS) setting that lowers the car’s wing when driving at speed in a straight line, as well as an update to the 12C’s infotainment system.
