Mazda has launched its pre-order microsite for the 2015 Mazda MX-5 25th Anniversary Edition, so interested buyers can place their name in a queue to purchase one of the 100 limited edition roadsters.
The site features a countdown clock to 10:25 a.m. PDT on May 20, 2014, which is when the pre-order system will open.
“The MX-5 Miata is not about making history but about taking innovation a step further,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO of Mazda North America, in a press release. “Twenty-five years after the vehicle was introduced, the MX-5 continues to be the benchmark for light, responsive and fun-to-drive roadsters. It is the genesis from which every Mazda since has been born. With the fourth generation MX-5 on the horizon, we look forward to reinventing the segment once again.”
The roadster, which was unveiled at the New York Auto Show last month, is a top-line model with trim-exclusive features. All 25th anniversary models have a deep metallic red paint job and 17-inch gunmetal grey alloy wheels, along with other special cosmetic trim bits. Mazda also says enhancements have been made to the engine so it revs more freely.
All 100 buyers will also get a custom Swiss-made watch inspired by the 25th anniversary model.
The special MX-5 starts at US$32,205.
