Porsche is said to be prepping an entry-level sports car for a 2016 launch, Germany’s Autobild reports.

Supposedly slotting in below the Boxster (which starts at $58,600) the new sports car will likely be powered by a four-cylinder boxer engine and be rear-wheel drive. The new car will likely start in the mid-$40,000 range. It is unclear whether the new car will be mid or front-engined.

Porsche quietly unveiled a new four-cylinder engine for its Macan in some markets, which could also be the basis for the engine in Porsche’s new sports car. The engine is based on Volkswagen’s ubiquitous 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder and is rated at 234 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque.

Whatever it is, we can’t wait to see Porsche’s newest offering.
