China offers huge incentives for hybrid and electric cars. Buyers can receive up to $9,200 in credit for an electric car and $5,300 for a plug-in hybrid. According to GT Spirit, Volkswagen AG has announced that along with its newly unveiled Audi A6 E-Tron, it plans to release 10 new hybrid/electric models for the Chinese market by 2018.

The Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid has already landed in China and the Volkswagen e-Up and e-Golf will be launched later this year. There are also plans for a sacrilegious innovative plug-in Bentley SUV to be released by 2017.

Having personally spent a week in Beijing smog, it’s easy to see why the world’s largest car market has such an interest in electric cars. Does this mean that we can expect these new electrified cars on North American shores? There are no official plans as of yet, but it’s certainly a possibility.
