Tesla CEO Elon Musk has postponed initial deliveries of the Model X crossover to the second quarter of 2015.
Initially expected to arrive this year, Musk cited a shortage in battery cell supplies as the cause for the latest delay in his company’s earnings conference call. According to AutoGuide, Musk also said production of the Model S is affected by the same shortage, but the company hopes to have it resolved by the third quarter of this year.
Although its production specifications haven’t been announced, the Model X will reportedly clock a zero-to-100 km/h time below the five second mark and will be offered with a 60 kWh or an 85 kWh battery, like the Model S. In addition, the Model X concept’s most distinguishing feature, the Falcon Wing rear doors, will make it into production.
